Zad Archery Upgrade Guide: Damage, Survival, and Movement

Quick answer

Choose upgrades from the blocker on screen: damage when targets survive, survival when your Archer falls, and movement only when positioning improves.

Quick answer

Choose an upgrade by the first reason your run fails:

  • Targets live too long → inspect bow, attack abilities, damage-facing nodes, and job behavior.
  • Your archer reaches danger → inspect movement speed and positioning before adding more speed.
  • You survive one group but not the next → compare defenses, kill speed, and whether regeneration has time to work.
  • Progress is stable but slow → inspect loot, crafting, mining, and the next system unlock.

A four-step upgrade test

  1. Use a familiar wave as the test area. A known wave makes changes easier to read.
  2. Name one blocker. Damage, survival, positioning, or system access are different requirements.
  3. Change one major variable. Equip a new bow, take a relevant node, change a skill, or test a job behavior.
  4. Run again and compare. Keep the change only if it improves the blocker without creating a worse one.

Damage upgrades

If targets remain alive long enough to overwhelm you, start with direct attack tools. Check the equipped bow and the abilities actually used in the fight. Then inspect the skill tree for nodes connected to that behavior.

Loot matters here: the official game description says each target enemy can drop rare loot that significantly improves the character. Compare the complete item, because a nominal upgrade can trade one useful stat for another.

Survival upgrades

Survival is not one stat. Ask when the damage happens:

  • Immediate burst: check armor, defensive effects, and whether the job moves into contact.
  • Damage over a long wave: check kill speed as well as defense; a shorter fight reduces exposure.
  • Failure between groups: regeneration can matter only if the game gives it time to work.

Community feedback is especially useful on the last point. Players reported that regeneration felt weak when only one tick could occur between groups. That does not make regeneration universally bad; it means its value depends on the run's rhythm.

Movement speed is a positioning choice

More movement is not automatically more power for a ranged archer. A player described a Sniper moving toward enemies while shooting, even when slowing them. Extra movement speed could therefore shorten the safe distance and increase contact with melee targets.

Before taking a movement node:

  1. Watch which direction the archer moves while attacking.
  2. Note where the first dangerous contact happens.
  3. Add speed only if it improves that location or reaches the next target safely.
  4. If the archer closes distance too quickly, test damage, range, or a different job behavior instead.

When to stop spending in one tree

The official feature list includes crafting, mining, Shaping, Masteries, and Guardian Perks in addition to the skill tree. If several small nodes fail to change the run, open the systems overview and check whether another progression layer offers the missing requirement.

The useful next step is the one that changes the observed fight. Repeatable testing beats a universal node order because loot and job choices make each run different.
